The Cloud Localization Blueprint and the Future of Media and Entertainment Workflow

Localization Challenges

Media companies are increasingly seeking to reach global audiences. Whether for marketing campaigns, content launches, or internal communications, the need for localized media tailored for territory, language, and cultural preference is more important than ever. Localization is a complex process requiring coordination between multiple stakeholders and technologies, all under mounting pressure to produce growing volumes of content.

As streaming platforms race to get massive amounts of new content localized for their global audiences, the localization supply chain has become ever more complex and competitive.
— Guy Finley, CEO, MESA in the Cloud Localization Blueprint

The Cloud Localization Blueprint

The Cloud Localization Blueprint (CLB) was created and launched at IBC 2022 to address the challenges of the localization process. The CLB is a collaborative industry initiative to provide a standardized approach to localization for the benefit of all parties - content owners, managed service providers, and software vendors. It brought together leading experts and companies including…

  • Fabric

  • The Pokemon Company International

  • SDVI

  • Warner Brothers Discovery

  • Iyuno

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • Rightsline

  • Vidispine

  • Entertainment ID Registry (EIDR)

  • ITV

  • Codemill

  • Language Metadata Table (LMT)

…to create a common framework for streamlining the localization supply chain.

A primary goal of the Cloud Localisation Blueprint is to increase efficiency and transparency among the participants in the localization supply chain by using a common cloud-based infrastructure to communicate, share data, and monitor progress. This approach allows content to be delivered faster, cheaper, and with consistent quality to many markets.

The challenge of localization is that everybody wants it yesterday, they don’t want to pay any more money for it, and they still want to maintain the same quality – that will never go away – but the Cloud Localization Blueprint might help to make some of those savings and efficiencies more achievable.
— Justin Walton, Global Content Operations Manager, ITV in the Cloud Localization Blueprint

The CLB framework provides value in 4 key areas:

  1. First, it reduces the complexity and cost of the localization process by eliminating manual tasks, duplication of work, and data silos.

  2. Second, it improves the quality and consistency of localized content by enabling real-time feedback, quality checks, and automated workflows.

  3. Third, it enhances the visibility and accountability of participants in the localization process by providing a single source of truth for all stakeholders.

  4. Fourth, it enables faster time-to-market, and scalability by leveraging cloud computing.
